Almaty region

Almaty region is a glorious land of Kazakhstani land, which has long been called Zhetysu - the Edge of Seven Rivers. The region has a rather complex geographic characteristics and a very diverse terrain. The northern part represents a semi-desert plain that is weakly inclined towards the Balkhash lake and is cut by the ancient riverbeds of the Ili River, the most significant of which is Bakanas. Two separate massifs - in the south and east - stretch the mountain ranges: Zailiysky Alatau and Dzungarsky Alatau. At the junction of their gradually declining slopes, the middle course of the Ili River is located.
